Mother Earth or Death! A Critical Theory of Patriarchy - Claudia von Werlhof
The critical theory of patriarchy provides us with an explanation for the emergence, development and perils of the global crisis of civilization as well as a way out. It allows us to elucidate why modernity is the most radical and violent project of civilization, one which we describe as patriarchy.
The logic of the end of modernity has its counterpart in the logic of alternatives. These must be matriarchal, not capitalist or patriarchal. “Matriarchal” meaning free of domination, life-sustaining, egalitarian, with a view of nature as a living entity. It also suggests the interconnectedness of all beings and the goal of a universally acceptable economic common ground, a shared social-political organization, and a culture committed to peaceful conflict-resolution.
A livable and nature-friendly matriarchy as “second culture” is developing, and to some degree already or still exists on the social margins, but operating everywhere.
